Unlocking Zen.
A beautifully carved vintage Japanese chabako (tea box), full of character, craftsmanship, and a little bit of mystery. Made from warm, dark‑toned wood and decorated with hand‑carved birds, leaves, and traditional nature motifs, this piece was designed to store tea utensils — but today it makes a wonderful keepsake box for jewellery, letters, or treasures.
One of its most charming features is the detachable carved handle. Shaped like a mountain peak, it slides out to unlock the lid and slots back in to secure it again. If you didn’t know the trick, you’d never guess how to open it — a lovely bit of Japanese ingenuity.
The box has a gently curved lid, a cylindrical body, and detailed carving on every side. It has a warm, timeworn patina from decades of use, giving it that soft, lived‑in feel that only age can create.
